The head, arm and base are the three primary components of the microscope. The head is considered the body of the instrument, responsible for carrying optical components. The base acts as a surface for the specimens and is generally located on the side. The arms are present to connect the base to the head. Most microscopes are designed to be carried safely and securely by the arm. Some models, though, feature a stationary arm. The eyepiece, of course, is where users can look through the microscope.
